4 Things to Consider when Hiring a Birmingham Web Design Company

So, you’ve made the decision… You want to hire a web designer in Birmingham, AL? Excellent! Now, what should you consider, and where do you begin?

This is a very important decision, as this provider should ideally be a partner to your business for many years. Many businesses, unfortunately, bounce around from provider to provider as they can’t seem to find the perfect fit. This can become very expensive, and it hurts your business as you never achieve any kind of “marketing rhythm.” If we were to hire a Birmingham web design agency, here are the four things we’d focus on:

1: Narrowing Your Options

As I’ve written about previously, there are several types of providers: freelancers, small-to-medium companies, and large companies. Each has their own pros and cons. Before contacting anyone, you should decide which is best for you.

At Ascend, we’re not trying to be all things to all companies. We are a smaller, boutique agency that only works with service-based businesses. If you don’t fit in this niche, then you need to find a provider that specializes in your industry. Other firms have made the decision to have dozens of employees and work with any business that comes through the door. Only you can decide which is the best fit for you.

Right away, this filtering process will winnow down the field considerably.

2: Know Your Goals & Needs

You do have clear goals set for your business, right? If not, then that should be your first step. How can a web marketing company help you if you don’t know what you want to achieve?

When you begin speaking with and considering web design companies, pay close attention to how attentive they are to learning about your goals, needs, and you as a business. If their questions center around the services they want to sell you, instead of learning about you, use caution. No one, regardless of their stature or experience, can properly design a website for a business without spending many hours learning about the company, their needs, their target audience, etc.

3: Importance of Service

How quickly are your calls returned? What kind of vibe do you get from all persons you speak with, from the person who answers the phone to the person responsible for business development?

The truth of the matter is that, at some point, something won’t go perfectly. A team member of your design firm may make a mistake, or a glitch may exist in your website that goes unnoticed until after launch. No human is perfect, but what matters is how does a company react to and resolve problems when they arise?

Is their culture built to revolve around complete Client satisfaction? Are they going to resolve problems free of charge after your site launches? Do they have a sincere passion for helping you? Find out before, not after, you hire a provider. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself with a broken website, lost revenue, and a lot of frustration.

4: Trustworthy Partner

I’m assuming you don’t really enjoy the process of selecting and hiring a web design company. The consultations, meetings, proposals… It all takes a lot of time. You want the next firm you hire to be the last one you hire. You want a web design company that you can trust to perform not only this initial project, but many projects for many years to come. A company that you can trust to always have your best interests in mind–even when it may be less profitable for them.

How do you determine a web design company’s trustworthiness? Questions, questions, questions. Don’t stop asking until you feel comfortable. If you don’t ever feel comfortable, walk away. Also, ask for references, or, better yet, go to their portfolio and contact those businesses directly yourself. Who knows if the references list they provide you is “rigged” or not?

Like everything else, anything worth having requires work. It can take a lot of time to meet with and select the perfect Birmingham web design company for your business. But, if you follow these steps, we’re confident you’ll be pleased with your decision for many, many years to come.
